Hello, fellow duplex owners/ residents, tomorrow is our official move-in date for the CH basement duplex storage.
Below is a write-up that Mary O’Hara started and I have added a few items. Billy told many of you the guidelines already, but this is just to help us work together to use and maintain the space for everyone’s benefit.
Now that the duplex owners know the number of their storage spot, the following steps are suggested that might avoid later misunderstandings and irritations:
· Check out the basement area and see where your spot is...the number is on a tape that is attached to the metal storage shelf at roughly head level. The floor is also marked with your 4ft x 4 ft space and it is numbered on the upper left-hand corner.
· Do not worry if stuff is already stored in your area. That all will be removed by December 19.
· You are free to exchange spaces if both parties agree! Just let Marcy know so when she updates the map of the CH basement, so will have the right names on the different locations.
· There is limited space in the aisles between racks. You will need to work with your rack neighbors on how to use the space, making sure everyone has free and unrestricted access to their storage.
· On the crib side, there is a heater at the base of the wall. For the occupant of the adjunct space, you will need to protect the heater and not let anything rest on it.
· For the spaces next to the side wall, you may have an outlet that must be left available for use. Or you may have a condensate line from the HVAC unit. You must protect that line, so the line is not damaged.
· If you have an interior space, discuss with the folks who have the exterior spaces (there are two interior and two exterior spaces in each of the two middle aisles and one interior and one exterior space in the other two aisles that are next to the basement walls) if they plan to use the floor space in the aisle for storage. If there is no floor space unoccupied by stuff in the exterior spot, and you have an interior spot, you will have a problem getting to your stuff.
· Depending on each household's plans for use of the floor space, it may make sense for some households to switch spots. Or else they will have to agree to convene and make sure that the exterior space folks who will be filling the aisle with stuff are willing to move it at the drop of a hat when the interior folks need to get to their stuff. Of course, life will be very simple if no one who has an exterior space uses the aisle space for storage and limits their storage items to those that can be held on their shelves.
So, duplex folks...congratulations, you now have some extra storage space. And we've created another growth opportunity to practice the skills of cooperation in our wonderful cohousing community!
